One can see the loose pumice and sand that made the ascend so miserable. But it made the decend a pleasure. Instead of slipping and sliding while trying to stay in the switch backs we would walk straight down, with each step sliding 5-6 feet, holding hands with our guides.
In 20 minutes we would be done at the base of the cone.
