Sunrise

We walked for 5 hours until we got to the crater rim, also known as Gilman's Point. The ascend was brutal. In hundreds of switch backs up the cone of Kibo. The ground is pumice and other volcanic rock and you constantly slip and slide back. The air thin so we shuffled for hours one foot in front of the other. It was cold, - 20 degrees. I had to put socks over my gloves and still was cold. We just trudged on and finally we reached the crater rim and we knew that the hardest part was done.
